Chronic Illness and Disability - The Grief and Loss We Don't Discuss

Carmen Galvan and and Kayla Carter will be holding a discussion group about grief related to chronic illness, disability, diagnosis and a change in our capacities as people.

We live in a society that bases our value on how productive we can be, and dismisses, rejects and ignores the people who do are deemed "unworthy/undeserving". For those of us living with disabilities, mental health challenges, chronic or episodic conditions and changing/shifting abilities (often related to age), we can experience grief, frustration and feelings of loss.

In this discussion group we will be holding space for people who want to discuss their grief journeys in relation to health and disability (be it their own or a loved ones). We will touch on things like anticipatory grief, disability justice, losing or shifting identities and how we can support each other.

The event is donation based and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you do decide to donate we are asking for a minimum donation of $5. Donations go towards the facilitators so we can continue to host free grief and death talks.
