The House of Bernarda Alba

In celebration of Women’s History Month 2021 and winning the OnComm Award for Best Recorded Production at the 2021 Offies, Graeae and The Royal Exchange Theatre are re-releasing, for two weeks only, the archive recording of their radical 2017 production, The House of Bernarda Alba.

In this recording of Lorca’s final masterpiece adapted by award-winning writer Jo Clifford, acclaimed star of stage and screen Kathryn Hunter plays Bernarda, leading a stellar all-female company of Deaf and disabled artists.

Bitter and darkly-comic, The House of Bernarda Alba charts the tyranny, jealousy and a desperate struggle for freedom between a mother and her five daughters, that will eventually lead to tragedy.
