Queer Identities Open Call
Themes of identity are highly celebrated amongst the exhibitions at IC Contemporary, and with our close connection to the queer community, ICC would like to showcase more artwork that speaks to queer experiences and identity.
Each year our gallery is going to host a queer exhibit and we want you to be a part of it! This current call is for the group or solo exhibition that explores Queer Identities.
In the past, our Queer Identities exhibit was a survey on the subliminal thought processes many members of the LGBTQIA+ community experience while living in a world that revolves around heteronormativity. It mainly focuses on queer experiences of minority stress and the repercussions of the innate pressure for them to follow feminine and masculine norms.
This theme will continue into 2021’s exhibition, however work that aims to combat or go beyond binary hegemonic representations of gender roles and/or identity will be given preference. That being said, we do wish to limit the experiences displayed here, therefore all queer experiences are welcome to be submitted and will be considered. All submissions will also be automatically considered for our Artist of the Month highlights.
This show provides a space for Queer Artists to interpret their own experiences on being Queer and how they choose to identify themselves, developing these thoughts into physical manifestations through any preferred medium. It also provides a platform for our stories to be seen and heard, so submit any paintings, drawings, film, poetry, performance, or sculpture and have your stories shared with the hundreds of people who will visit this exhibition.
Deadline: May 1st 2021
