Able to Disabled: My Changing Landscape

Hosted by The Disability Collective

The Disability Collective is proud to present a screening of Kim Kitchen’s Able to Disabled: My Changing Landscape! Join us on Thursday, May 27th at 7 PM EST to collectively watch Kim Kitchen’s soundscape piece, followed by a discussion and Q&A session with Kim.

The Disability Collective previewed a segment of Kim’s soundscape piece at our inaugural event, ART IS MOVEMENT: A Virtual Showcase and Fundraiser earlier this year. Due to high demand, we are thrilled to bring Kim’s full piece to life at this interactive screening event.

Able to Disabled: My Changing Landscape conveys insurmountable moments of grief, loss, and transformation amid testable adaptability and embrace. Anchored in her reality, the narrative emerges, depicting a vivid story and complexity within the composition. Through the art of shaping sound, Kim shares her process and insights of these life changing years. At its core, Able to Disabled: My Changing Landscape recounts a personal process of transformation, re-configuration of identity, and the work of letting go to then let in.

Accessibility

Captions will be provided at this event. Kim’s piece includes ASL interpretation. To make this event more accessible, this event will be Pay What You Can with a suggested donation of $15.

Organizations

The Disability Collective

The Disability Collective is a community of disabled artists dedicated to celebrating and showcasing disability in the arts. TDC strives to de-stigmatize disability and challenge perceptions of what disability looks like through promoting disabled artists in a variety of forms, including live performances, virtual showcases, visual art shows, readings, and more. We believe that disability can be defined in many ways, including physical impairments, mental health conditions, emotional disabilities, sensory disabilities, cognitive challenges, and chronic illnesses.
