Creating an Accessible Performing Arts Sector
Hosted by Realwheels Theatre
Get ready for the show! Realwheels Theatre is pulling back the curtain on what it means to have a disability through the power of theatre.
Learn more on Monday, June 7th at 12PM PDT about how they advocate for social change, both on and off Canadian stages, by creating and producing performances that deepen the understanding of what it means to live with a disability.
Speakers in this session will include the Realwheels Artistic Director, Acting Academy staff and Board President.
Realwheels is a Vancouver-based theatre company with a mission to create and produce performances that deepen understanding of disability.
Our vision is full inclusion and integration of disability both on - and off - Canadian stages; a barrier-free, diverse performing arts world that reflects the real world and ALL its people. We believe theatre has the power and capacity to bring about social change, through the empathic understanding that results from exposure to those with different lived experience. Our projects disrupt the stereotypical experience of people with disabilities as being invisible to society and culture.
We advocate on behalf of the disability community, and we create safe, inclusive spaces for beginner, emerging and mid-career artists with disabilities to develop their craft, whether in playwriting, acting, directing, or design. We are an integrated company that is lead by Board and staff members who identify as both living with disabilities and able-bodied.
