Call for Applications: Event and Volunteer Manager

Hosted by Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts

The Nina Haggerty Centre is unique in its blending of community development and disability service. The Centre currently supports a Collective of more than 230 adults with developmental disabilities. Artists explore with paint, clay, textiles, dance and so much more. At the Nina, people have been able to create artwork, to see their work exhibited in public, receive media attention, and benefit financially from the sale of some of their work. For many it is the first time that they have been recognized for what they can do and the impact on self-image and self-esteem is nothing less than remarkable.

Committed to community development, the Centre also offers free and low-cost community outreach programming for adults and families through regularly scheduled evening classes. With an emphasis on supporting those who face barriers, these classes attract a range of participants. The Nina has received awards and the acknowledgement locally and provincially for its efforts to build capacity in our inner-city community.

Since it was founded in 2003, the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts has been home to one of Edmonton’s most interesting art collectives, made up entirely of artists with developmental disabilities. What began as a collective of one has grown to include over 200 members. Their work is exhibited locally and across Canada, and has been included in international exhibitions.
