Job Call: Interim Artistic Director
Hosted by Eyelevel
Eyelevel is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to take on a temporary contract position as Interim Artistic Director. The Interim AD will be responsible for supervising Eyelevel’s contract employees - currently the Mother Tongues Assistant Curator and a planned YCW summer student position in 2022, and maintaining the sound operations and planned programming, including annual grants and Eyelevel’s year end, for the duration of the AD’s parental leave. The Interim AD will be expected to maintain bookstore hours and be available during Eyelevel’s regular office hours (Tue-Fri 10-5). The Interim AD will also be required to attend after-hours meetings and events on a regular basis.
The Interim AD will work alongside the Board of Directors and Eyelevel’s Committees to ensure that existing programs and projects remain on-track and are carried out with care. This position will receive significant training from the AD with a long overlap period between the two directors, and is an ideal position for someone who has gained some experience working in nonprofits, community organizations or artist run centres who would like to challenge themselves with an autonomous leadership position. The Interim AD will report directly to the Board of Directors and will be subject to a 3-month probationary period.
Eyelevel is committed to employment equity, and we welcome and encourage applications from those who self-identify as women, trans or gender diverse, Black, Indigenous, Persons of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, and/or Persons with Disabilities. Eyelevel is particularly encouraging of those who are typically under-represented in contemporary art and artist-run centre staff, namely IBPOC, QTBIPOC and Persons with Disabilities, acknowledging the value and skills of these lived experiences.
Eyelevel’s office and bookstore are wheelchair accessible, and we offer a flexible work environment with a great deal of autonomy and work-from-home options. Our office and bookstore is housed at 2482 Maynard Street, a low-stimuli, scent-free environment housing wheelchair accessible non gendered washrooms, artist studios, a quiet room, shared kitchenette, and the lovely community arts organization Wonder’neath.
Eyelevel’s studios on Gottingen Street is only accessible by climbing a full flight of stairs (with a railing), and studios are located up a spiral staircase with a railing. The Studios have one non-gendered washroom and are located alongside Radstorm, a collective sharing Eyelevel’s principles of community equity. Please let us know any accessibility needs and/or allergies and sensitivities in your application.
