Development and Community Events Manager

Ottawa Arts Council is a bilingual service organization that advances, promotes and advocates for the arts in Ottawa. We are leaders and catalysts in building an engaged, growing and inclusive arts sector. We support artists and arts organizations through leadership, guidance and the provision of opportunities to advance Ottawa's local creative potential. The office is located in downtown Ottawa in the Arts Court building. We are a small and busy team of passionate arts supporters who strive to work collaboratively and respectfully together. 

The Development and Community Events Manager is a full-time management position within the Ottawa Arts Council responsible for fundraising and the planning of the Council’s professional development and community engagement events. 

This position requires an innovative thinker who can bring opportunities and potential collaborations to the table. Someone whose passion for the arts aligns with their love of community, and who views engagement with this community through a lens of equity, inclusivity and accessibility. This is an ‘ideas’ person; someone who’s comfortable thinking outside the box, who embraces change and understands that the fluctuating budgets of a not-for-profit organization require flexibility and a creative approach. 

 We’re looking for a great communicator who looks at challenges as opportunities, who can comfortably take the reins of a project from concept to fruition, and who is intuitive enough to know how and when to ask for support. We’re excited to meet the candidate who can clearly demonstrate an understanding of the importance of stewardship and meaningful relationship building with diverse communities. 

The position requires a high level of comfort in representing the Council online and in-person at community events, as well as networking and public speaking opportunities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both official languages are essential. The position is suited to someone who is intuitive and can comfortably navigate a range of engagement scenarios - from a protocol meeting with a major sponsor to an informal partner meeting over a cup of coffee. 

The successful candidate will oversee some administration and all event management of the Arts Awards, in addition to Council and third-party fundraising events. They will collaborate with the Executive Director in the development of community programs and, in most cases, be the main point of contact for their management. They will also take a leadership role in researching and applying for diversified funding opportunities in relation to sponsorship. 

The Development and Community Events Manager reports to the Executive Director, is supported by the Council’s Administration and Communications staff, and oversees the acquiring and management of volunteers.
