Dickens' A Christmas Carol

Hosted by Neptune Theatre, Bluenose Ability Arts & Film Festival (BAAFF)

We are pleased to announce that Neptune will have its first ever Audio Described Performance hit our Scotiabank Stage this holiday season! A big thanks to the Bluenose Ability Arts & Film Festival whose partnership has made this possible. Audio Description was originally designed to provide access for audience members who are blind or partially sighted, and is now also regularly used by people who are neurodiverse and/or have sensory sensitivities. We look forward to making this a regular part of our programming, and invite all patrons to come, be themselves and experience live theatre!

Patrons can collect the necessary equipment for the performance at the box office. This includes an earpiece and a small receiver, which are cleaned before and after each use.

Before the show starts, patrons will be welcomed into the theatre for an audio introduction which will be delivered through their earpiece and receiver.

We have accessible seating for patrons with wheelchairs and walkers upon request, and wheelchair-accessible washrooms.

For 57 years, Neptune Theatre has contributed to the cultural, social and economic well-being of Halifax and the province. For generations audiences have delighted in the stories we share on our stages. As we look to the future, under the vision of Artistic Director Jeremy Webb, Neptune Theatre will embark on a journey of creative growth in which audiences will see more work from Atlantic Canadian and Canadian playwrights; stories that represent the diversity of our communities and region; accessible programming so that all can enjoy the experience of live theatre; and increased opportunities for the growth and development of emerging, local artists.

Bluenose Ability Arts & Film Festival was created to provide opportunities for individuals of all ages, abilities, and identities to connect with, share in, and gain a greater understanding of disability culture through the power of visual and performing arts. Every year we come together to celebrate and showcase a spectrum of voices unique to peoples living with disabilities by creating a platform that extends throughout our community and across the world. The arts allow people to explore, portray and capture their views and lived experiences in accessible ways, regardless of the medium. We extend an invitation to participants of all kinds: those who identify as persons living with disabilities, friends and families of those facing challenges or barriers in regards to mental or physical health, through to whoever else has a message to share - we want to hear from you.
