Calgary Opera is hiring one new Community Ambassador person in a 6-month contract position to work with our new partner organization the National accessArts Centre (NaAC). NaAC is Canada’s oldest and largest disability arts organization – and in 2020, became the country’s first multidisciplinary disability arts organization.
This new position will also work with our two existing Community Ambassadors on shared components of delivering workshops to Junior and Senior High schools and interested community and voice groups. Areas of focus for these workshops will include the mechanics and care of the voice, proper techniques and warmups, pronunciation, and the education and career development of an opera singer, including personal experiences.
This position will have as its focus presenting self-generated curriculum on the meaning, history, and relevance of opera in the world today, the “why” and “how” of opera, to the artists at NaAC. This work will lead into an opera creation project by these artists in the 2022-23 season. There is a high possibility of renewing this contract position for the 2022-23 season with the Opera in the continued position of Community Ambassador, but with a different primary focus.
Applications are now being accepted until December 3, 2021, with a start date of January 3, 2022.
