Introduction to Disability Inclusion in Community Arts

This workshop is aimed at providing foundational knowledge to community arts facilitators and programmers about best practices in including disabled participants in their programming. Participants will learn about disability-related terminology, models of disability, and some foundational accommodation practices to support their work. 

Facilitator Shay Erlich is a hard of hearing, multiply disabled, and genderqueer child and youth care practitioner, wheelchair dancer, and circus artist. Shay has over 10 years’ experience working as an accessibility consultant in academic, artistic, and frontline service settings. They specialize in assisting frontline service organizations and arts institutions in creating accessible opportunities for the diverse people that they work with. Shay also provides training and support for frontline practitioners who wish to improve their practice with disabled clients.
