Student Position: Outreach and Publications Assistant

Hosted by The Blackwood Gallery

The Blackwood is a contemporary art gallery at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus, and dedicated to open, public research. The Blackwood presents curated exhibitions featuring the work of local, national, and international professional artists in on-campus gallery spaces, as well as offsite projects throughout Mississauga and the GTA.

The Blackwood is currently seeking an Outreach and Publications Assistant. Working closely with the Assistant Curator, Project Coordinator, and Curatorial Assistant / Collections Archivist, the Outreach and Publications Assistant will support the Blackwood’s hybrid programming throughout summer 2022.

The incumbent will support ongoing audience-building, educational initiatives, and publishing projects for summer and fall programming, responsive to changing conditions of gathering amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to supporting existing outreach strategies, the candidate will contribute to community engagement plans, identifying new audiences and proposing new opportunities to engage with those audiences. They will provide hands-on support for scheduled programs during the summer, assist in hosting events and coordinating community meetings, with a goal of reaching audiences beyond the University of Toronto Mississauga community.

The Outreach and Publications Assistant will also support the distribution of communications, marketing, and pedagogical materials to local audiences. The position offers an opportunity for the incumbent to expand their knowledge of gallery outreach strategies within a mid-sized public gallery, while learning from and working alongside arts professionals in a positive, constructive, and considerate workplace.

All applicants must qualify for Young Canada Works funding: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadianheritage/services/funding/young-canada-works/students-graduates/heritage-organizationsstudents.html.

Closing Date: April 25, 2022
