CRANKED: The ReMix Workshop Facilitator

As a touring company, Green Thumb Theatre’s work often takes place throughout the traditional homelands of most of the Indigenous Nations and cultures across British Columbia and beyond. Green Thumb's offices are located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Green Thumb Theatre is seeking an experienced arts-based facilitator with a background in theatre performance to co-create and lead workshops for secondary students that accompany our touring production of CRANKED: The ReMix by Michael P. Northey. This hip-hop and spoken word infused performance tackles issues of addiction and recovery in the midst of the opioid epidemic.

The contract would include approximately 21 hours of creation time in collaboration with Green Thumb’s Education Liaison, 14 hours of orientation and rehearsal with the cast, and a 4-week out of town tour with the show into Central and Northern BC.

The 21 hours would take place over July and August of 2022 and could be scheduled according to the availability of the successful candidate and the Education Liaison. The 14 hours of rehearsal would take place in mid to late September (TBC), and the tour would last from October 1st to 31st, 2022 (TBC). Please note: all dates are subject to change.

Accommodations will be arranged and per diems will be supplied for the out-of-town portion of the contract.

Reporting to and collaborating with the Education Liaison, the facilitator will create a number of workshop options (single block, single day, and multi-day workshops) that engage with the issues addressed in the play and/or other issues of interest to the youth participating. The workshops will employ theatre exercises to explore and create original content with the youth participants. In the case of the multi-day workshops, the process may culminate in a public showing for the school community.

Application Deadline: June 15th, 2022 – 4:30pm PST

In-person interviews will take place the week of June 20th to 24th, 2022. All Candidates will be asked to wear a 3-layer mask* and provide proof of full vaccination** as per Green Thumb’s Mandatory Vaccination Policy with the COVID-19 In-Person Work Policy.

*People who cannot wear a mask or who cannot put on or remove a mask on their own are exempt. Some people cannot wear a mask for psychological, behavioral or health conditions. **People who are unable to receive the vaccine for bona fide reasons protected by the BC Human Rights Code are exempt.

Accessibility

Green Thumb Theatre is actively seeking to dismantle inequity in the theatre sector, and to further principles of access, inclusion, and equity in our work. We strongly encourage applications from IBPOC, LGBTQ+, and other communities facing systemic marginalization, and welcome members of those communities to self-identify as they feel comfortable. Green Thumb also recognizes that artists, employees, and contractors are informed by all facets of their identities. We welcome applicants to inform us of their pronouns if they wish, and to include details about how their identity informs their practice and needs as they see fit. All Green Thumb staff, contractors and volunteers will be asked to sign off on Green Thumb’s Anti-Oppression and Anti-Harassment Policy.
