Disability Arts Week - Improv with Velvet

Disability Arts Week is a series of educational events lead by professional artists with disabilities.

In an improv show, everything is made up. Your favourite improv games can become a discovery tool for performing and discovering new aspects to your character. In this workshop, we'll learn & practice three improv games, and then subtly bring them into our dramatic scenes.

Disability Arts Week is a celebration of artists with disabilities and their important and unique contributions to the art world. All workshops are specifically designed to be accessible to neurodivergent folks and folks with intellectual disabilities. All are welcomed and encouraged in this space. We welcome folks of all abilities, of all life experiences, literacy levels and verbal as well as non-verbal communicators. If you don't identify as having a disability you are also welcome. Recommended for ages 13+

Velvet Wells (he/they) is an award winning devised theatre professional living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In addition to running workshops independently, Velvet is a sought-out facilitator, having led workshops for international improvisational theatres, festivals, and community organizations including Art Gallery of Mississauga, Guelph Black Heritage Society, and Wagner-Green Center for Access & Inclusion.

"Velvet is a fantastic, talented and patient instructor who makes you feel safe to step outside of your comfort zone." Daa'iyah Hasan
