Everyday Puppetry with Jordan M. Burns
Disability Arts Week is a series of educational events lead by professional artists with disabilities.
Disability Arts Week is a celebration of artists with disabilities and their important and unique contributions to the art world. All workshops are specifically designed to be accessible to neurodivergent folks and folks with intellectual disabilities. All are welcomed and encouraged in this space. We welcome folks of all abilities, of all life experiences, literacy levels and verbal as well as non-verbal communicators. If you don't identify as having a disability you are also welcome. Recommended for ages 13+
Jordan is a professional puppeteer who will teach you how to bring everyday objects to life and even teach you how to make your very own “budget-puppet.”
Jordan M. Burns (they/them) is a Disabled, Indigenous, multidisciplinary artist mainly based in Tkaronto. As a proud honours graduate of Humber College’s Theatre Performance program, Jordan has explored many roles within the theatre industry. Working as a director, producer, puppeteer, actor, and playwright, Jordan always has a project they are itching to work on. Currently, Jordan serves as a co-founding artistic director with Third Wheel Theatre Co. Some of their favourite credits include The Cat in the Hat (dir. S. Prelletz), The Echoes II: Pigeon Pie (dir. M. Wodzinska), Vermilion (dir. G. Kosmidis), Not_ALL.? (dir. S. Robinson), and infinity Machine (dir. S. Moore).Committed to a comprehensive artistic practice, Jordan is currently pursuing their master’s degree in theatre at York University.
This is an in person workshop
All tickets are for in person only. You are welcome to have a support staff, friend or family member with you free of charge. These tickets are offered on a sliding scale of pricing to accommodate financial barriers. We are a non-profit however and compensating the professional artists for their work so if is within your means to support us please consider opting for a higher tier ticket price.
