undercurrents 2023 Call for Submissions

Hosted by Ottawa Fringe Festival

The Ottawa Fringe Festival is now accepting submissions for the 13th edition of the undercurrents festival, which takes place February 8-18th, 2023 at Arts Court.

We are also accepting submissions for our 22-23 under development* program. Showcasing the best independent theatre from Ottawa and across the country, undercurrents invites submissions from Ottawa-based and national companies.

The festival will consider applications from established and emerging artists who are working on new plays and performance pieces, as well as from those touring previously produced original work.

Applications are accepted at anytime throughout the year, but artists wishing to be considered for the 2023 festival must submit their information on or before August 12th, 2022. Applications received after this date will be considered for future festivals. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and applicants will hear by latest October if they are being considered.

*under development is the Ottawa Fringe’s new play development program, inviting local artists/collectives to work on their new creation pieces in residence at Arts Court for a year. under development offers rehearsal/creation space and access to professional development opportunities, workshops, and Fringe resources. Participants have the freedom to create based on their own process and timeline, with access to resources on an as needed/requested basis. under development participants meet regularly with Fringe staff and as a group for updates and to share their work.
