Workshop Series for Deaf Artists: Grant Writing

Hosted by Deaf Spectrum

Deaf Spectrum is introducing a workshop series for Deaf artists starting Fall 2022!

Grant Writing This Grant Writing Workshop Series will give Deaf artists an opportunity to work on their grant writing skills. This hands-on workshop series will teach Deaf artists how to write a strong grant application and convince the jury to support their project! In this series, Deaf artists will get feedback to strengthen their application. We will use examples of grant applications from the Canada Council of the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council.

How often will they happen? Each series will last four weeks, the workshops will be held once a week.

How long are the workshops? Each session is two hours long.

Will there be assignments? There will be assignments - it is your choice to complete them or not. If you do not complete them, then you will not be able to get feedback.

What will the workshops look like? Option 1: Group Study With Scheduled Online Workshops (available for Professional Writing Workshops, Grant Writing Workshops, Playwriting Workshops, and Improv workshops.)

Option 2: Self Study (available for Professional Writing Workshops, Grant Writing Workshops and Playwriting Workshops.)

Option 3: Hold for In-Person Workshops (not confirmed but possible for Spring 2023)

The scheduled online workshops will be taken on zoom and recorded. We’ll use the Teachable platform to access our course materials and recordings. There will be homework assignments that you will need to complete. The workshop facilitator(s) will be able to provide feedback.

Cost? Free but you need to apply as there is a limited number of participants!

Who are the workshops for? With the exception of the anti-audism workshops and improv workshops, the workshops are for Deaf artists and writers who use ASL. These workshops will not have voice-over interpretation or closed captioning. These are ASL-only spaces and that’s something that’s so rare. The workshops are open to Deaf Canadians only.

Why do I need to apply? There are several reasons!

  • Scheduling
  • Access Needs
  • Printed Materials
  • Capacity

When is the workshop series happening? Grant Writing: October 2022 (Tuesdays Oct 4, 11, 18, 25)

When is the deadline for applications? 2 months before for access to printed materials. We may accept last-minute participants, depending on capacity. The latest we can accept participants is 10 business days before the workshop series begins (with the exception of January’s workshop’s deadline)

October workshop deadline: August 30th (last-minute participants: Sept 20)

When will we know if we are selected or not? We will confirm 5-10 business days after the deadline.
