Ethics and Representation in Documentary Filmmaking and Photography

This seminar will address ethics in documentary filmmaking and photography practices and social justice.

This seminar will address ethics in documentary filmmaking and photography practices and social justice. How do we engage in ethical and responsible representations in the process of recording our stories? In this single-session seminar, filmmaker and photojournalist Annie Sakkab will explore the practice of documentary filmmaking and photography.

Participants will learn how to navigate vulnerable subject matter and explore the relationship between documentary representation and minority communities and communities experiencing social injustice.

Accessibility

Our virtual events take place through the video-calling platform Zoom where there is access to a real-time live Closed Captioning (CC) feature, a Q&A section to accommodate additional accessibility requests, ASL interpreters (if needed, will be provided), dial-in from phone numbers as well as an accessibility point person who is available to assist with troubleshooting or access issues. In addition, our online events in Zoom support screen readers, provide high contrast mode, and have screen magnifiers and visual modifications.
