TEENAGE DICK

Hosted by Arts Club Theatre Company, Realwheels Theatre

What’s a teenaged Richard Gloucester to do when he’s made the laughingstock of Roseland High School? Run for senior class president, of course. But will winning the presidential race—against the star quarterback, no less—be enough to satisfy his hunger for popularity? This deliciously witty and darkly funny Shakespeare adaptation, written by Mike Lew, takes a modern stance on disability, power, and perception. Playing at Newmont Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre from February 9 - March 5.

The Arts Club Theatre Company is the largest theatre company in Western Canada. Each year, over a quarter of a million people experience the best in professional theatre at its three venues: the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, Granville Island Stage, and Goldcorp Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre, as well as on tour throughout the province. Its popular productions range from musicals and contemporary comedies to new works and classics. The Arts Club also expands its audiences outside Vancouver through a three-show mini-season tour presented at venues around British Columbia. The 2018/2019 Arts Club season features six productions at the historic 650-seat Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage; five productions at the vibrant 440-seat Granville Island Stage; and four productions at the intimate 250-seat Goldcorp Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre.

Realwheels Theatre

Realwheels Theatre creates and produces performances that deepen understanding of the disability experience. We tell stories in which disability itself is not the focus of conflict, but rather forms the landscape upon which universal issues are debated onstage. Our vision is full inclusion and integration of disability both on – and off – Canadian stages; a barrier-free, diverse performing arts world that reflects the real world and all of its people.
