Call for Submissions: Migratory Roots Festival
Literacy in Action's Migratory Roots Festival 2023 is looking for emerging artists, storytellers, poets, and all creatives who are interested in exploring the theme of migration in the English-speaking communities of Quebec’s Estrie region (aka part of the Eastern Townships). Selected artists will have six months to create an original piece, performance or story that will be featured during Literacy in Action’s Migratory Roots Festival in Sawyerville, Ayer’s Cliff and Lennoxville, in October 2023.
To submit, applicants can fill out the submission form on the festival's website.
Artists are encouraged to contemplate and create with migratory patterns such as:
- Bird, fish and animal migration
- Impacts of the Anglophone exodus' on English-speaking communities
- Sense of belonging to place, land, territory
- Historic immigration and/or displacement (early groups such as the English, Scottish and Irish, Black, Jewish and Asian/South Asian communities and Indigenous populations such as the Abenaki).
Note: Note priority will be given to English-speaking emerging creatives living in the towns of Sawyerville, Ayer's Cliff, and Lennoxville, Quebec but all applications from the Estrie region will be considered.
