Artrepreneur Performance Stream

Hosted by York Region Arts Council

Deadline to apply: August 16th, 2020 @ 11:59 PM

Artists contribute greatly to the social and economic well-being of communities and require the necessary strategic training to grow in capacity. By incubating artists in one program, we foster collaboration and the sharing of ideas, tools, tips and best practices, resulting in a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to “make it” and build a sustainable practice in your community.

Artrepreneur was launched in 2015 to offer business skills to artists and cultural workers starting their own creative business. The program supports artists across all disciplines and gives them the tools to launch a new business. Artrepreneur has launched 18 cohorts in over 10 municipalities since its inception. Since then, the program has evolved and adapted to support the ever-changing landscape.

The York Region Arts Council is excited to launch the new Artrepreneur Performance Stream, delivered completely online to ensure the safety of our arts community amidst COVID-19.

The York Region Arts Council has identified a strong need for discipline-specific entrepreneurship training in the performing arts. Artrepreneur Performance Stream is intended to support performing artists (theatre, dance and music) who are looking to produce their own work. This program is suited for those who have a strong background in creation and performance. Fellows will get a better understanding of ideating and producing shows, expanding their sponsorship and engagement, and discovering new marketing strategies.

Artrepreneur Performance Stream will follow a similar model to the Artrepreneur program with a hyper-focus on the performing arts. All aspects of the program, from the participants, speakers and the curriculum, will all bring a business lens to the performing arts.
