Bright Lights: The Reason I Jump
Hosted by Bright Lights Film Series
7 PM EDT – 10 PM EDT
Based on the best-selling book by Naoki Higashida, THE REASON I JUMP is an immersive cinematic exploration of neurodiversity through the experiences of non-speaking autistic people from around the world. The film blends Higashida’s revelatory insights into autism, written when he was just 13, with intimate portraits of five remarkable young people. It opens a window into an intense and overwhelming, but often joyful, sensory universe. Discussion with director Jerry Rothwell and subjects Emma Budway and Ben McGann. I, POC, D, SJ (mental health and disability justice).
Tickets are free and open to the public. Registration opens at noon on the day of the screening. Screening starts at 7pm and is synchronous (can be started late but can’t be viewed at a later date). Discussion will be live following the program at 8:45pm.
