Last Tuesdays: Unarmed Verses

Hosted by JAYU

26 May 2020, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM EDT

Join JAYU for the latest addition of the Last Tuesdays Virtual Screening Series with Charles Officer’s Unarmed Verses.

“A thoughtful and vivid portrait of a community facing imposed relocation. At the centre of the story is the remarkable, astute and luminous 12-year-old Francine Valentine, whose poignant observations about life, the soul, and the power of art give voice to those rarely heard in society. Unarmed Verses is a cinematic rendering of our universal need for self-expression and belonging.”

Accessibility

The screening will be offered with closed captions and will be immediately followed by a Q&A with Charles Officer (director) at 7:40 PM on Facebook Live, with an ASL interpreter.

JAYU is a registered Canadian charity and a leader in the space where the arts and human rights intersect.

We believe strongly that the arts provide the strongest platform to share human rights stories. The arts can be used to educate, to build empathy, to heal, to forge community and to inspire the kinds of conversations necessary to reimagine a more just and equitable world.

Guided by our dedicated team of staff, artists, educators and our Board of Directors, our year-round programming includes our annual Human Rights Film Festival, our iAM arts and social justice training program, The Hum Podcast and our Human Rights Screening Series.
