Unsettling Dramaturgy Award

The Unsettling Dramaturgy Award is for self-identified Black, Black Indigenous, Black Native, and/or Afro-Indigenous theatre, dance and experimental performance makers, who are Crip, Deaf, Mad, Sick, Chronically Ill, Disabled, Neurodiverse. Nominees can be at any stage of their career/practice, and must be based in the so-called USA or Canada.

This award is our collective response to anti-Black racism and the intersecting systemic oppressions and exclusions that shape our performance arts ecologies. This award is an expression of our alignment with movements like Black Lives Matter.

This award will include:

  • A cash gift
  • A feature of the nominee’s work on the Unsettling Dramaturgy and HowlRound websites, and through our social media platforms
  • An invitation to participate in an online gathering with other awarded artists, which will be produced for the public in collaboration with HowlRound in 2021

Awards will be granted on a first-come first-serve basis until all available funds have been expended. If extra funds become available the nomination period will be extended.
