Emily Cook is a visual artist, arts educator, and curator. She is Education and Accessibility Programs Director at Critical Distance Centre for Curators. Her curatorial focus is on Crip and Accessible Curatorial practices. She co-curated Access is Love and Love is Complicated with Sean Lee in 2019. She works collaboratively with colleagues and guest curators to integrate accessibility into exhibitions in ways that carefully consider the an authentic experience of the exhibition for Deaf, Mad and Disabled publics. She also helps to create discursive and education programming that push forward these approaches. She also runs Paperhouse Studio – an experimental studio rooted in paper as the medium – with Flora Shum. She works on arts and cultural initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for underrepresented artists. She has an MFA in printmaking from Louisiana State University and she sits on the board of Tangled Arts + Disability. She lives in Toronto with a lovely roommate and lots of books.
